How the marks work
Two levels, no third. 🟢 Verifiable means the fact is printed on the vendor's own site — a price, a feature, a policy sentence — and you can open the page and see it. ⚪ Vendor-stated means the vendor asserts it about its own performance or scale and nobody outside the vendor has published a check: an accuracy percentage, a user count, a star rating on the vendor's own page. Coverage is broad on paper: six categories and "50+ noise types." Speed is the headline; the FAQ says diagnoses "typically complete in 5–15 seconds." Pricing is unusually clear for a small tool: five pack sizes at about a dollar a credit, an explicit "No subscription ever," and a way to earn a credit by contributing a recording that passes review.
The things to know before spending: the Terms page says "all purchases are final and non-refundable" except where law requires; the service is "operated by an individual based in Québec, Canada" who is not named anywhere on the site and whose contact is a Gmail address; and the performance claims — "93% Accuracy (audio mode)," "5 000+ Diagnoses completed," "4.8 ★ Average rating," a model trained on "50 000+ engine recordings" — appear without a methodology page and without any third-party reviews we could locate on Trustpilot, Reddit or the BBB as of September 2026. On the privacy side the site is better than most: recordings submitted for diagnosis are "deleted immediately after processing," contributed recordings are retained for training only with consent, and the processors are named. Full disclosure: I built this, so check this section against the site. Pulscar's sound check asks you to film your engine running for 30 seconds and emails a report within about ten minutes: an Engine Health Score from 0 to 100, a system-by-system status breakdown, an independent AI second opinion that reviews the first pass, a six-month prediction and repair-cost ranges. No card, no tier, no subscription for the check. The homepage's framing against hardware is explicit — "No scanner. No garage. No $300 fee." and "An OBD scanner reads error codes. Pulscar listens" — and its comparison table marks OBD codes outside the check's scope. The "200+ known failure patterns" line is our claim and gets a ⚪ for the same reason MyAutoSound's numbers do.

The most useful thing a diagnostic tool can publish is its own boundary, and both of these do, in their own words.
