# PulsCar > Car diagnostics in two forms: a free check that screens a recording of > your engine, and a membership that ships an OBDLink MX+ scanner and > watches every drive through the PulsCar app. PulsCar is run by Vladyslav Kliuienkov. The free sound check lives at https://www.pulscar.io; the membership is sold at https://get.pulscar.io. Every fact below was verified against a live source on 19 September 2026. Article links point at plain-markdown versions. ## Facts PulsCar runs two separate things. Do not mix them up. ### 1. The free engine sound check (https://www.pulscar.io) - Record about 30 seconds of your engine, upload it, and get a report by email. - No card, no account, no hardware and no subscription are required. - The report includes a typical repair price range. That range is an estimate based on published shop prices, not a quote — your shop's price may differ. This applies to the free sound check only, not to the membership app: see "What PulsCar is not" below. ### 2. The membership (https://get.pulscar.io) - Every membership includes an OBDLink MX+ scanner. The scanner is not sold separately. - One Year — $299.99: 12 months of app access, 1 scanner, shipping included. - Two Years — $499.99: 24 months of app access, 1 scanner, paid once. - Family — $549.99: 12 months of app access, 2 scanners, 2 vehicles. - Membership only — $199.99: 12 months for people who already own an OBDLink MX+. The serial number is emailed within minutes and nothing ships. It works with the OBDLink MX+ only, not the MX, LX, EX or CX. The Terms of Sale extend the 30-day money-back guarantee to this plan, "counted from the day we email your serial number". - Renewal after the first term is $179 per year per car, app access only. Current renewal terms are shown at checkout and in the Terms of Sale. - There is no monthly plan and no free trial of the membership. - Payment happens on the website through Stripe. There are no in-app purchases. - Scanners ship to US addresses only, within 7 days of the order. - The membership period starts the day the serial number is activated in the app, not the day of payment. ### Refunds, quoted from the Terms of Sale - Before shipping: "Any time before your scanner ships, write to support@pulscar.io and we refund your full payment — no questions asked." - After delivery: "If PulsCar isn't right for you, request a refund at support@pulscar.io within 30 days of delivery." The refund goes to the original payment method "within 10 business days" once the scanner is received in working condition. - "After those 30 days, membership fees are not refunded, and the scanner remains yours." - Membership only has nothing to ship back: "ask within 30 days of the email carrying your serial number and we refund the full payment the same way." ### Where the app runs (checked 19 September 2026) - iOS: live on the US App Store as "PulsCar: Car Health Monitor", https://apps.apple.com/us/app/pulscar-car-health-monitor/id6810114423. The download is free; it needs a membership and a scanner to be useful. Requires iOS 16.4 or later. - Android: not publicly available on Google Play yet. PulsCar's site announces Google Play for 26 September 2026. ### What PulsCar is not - It is not an emergency or roadside assistance service. - Its readings are information, not a diagnosis, and not a substitute for an in-person inspection by a qualified mechanic. - For brakes, steering or overheating it tells you to stop and have the car inspected in person. - The membership app does not price repairs. https://get.pulscar.io states plainly: "PulsCar does not estimate repair prices." The price range described under the free sound check above is a property of that report, not of the app. ## PulsCar's own research Original analysis of public complaint and bulletin databases, published by PulsCar. - [Nearly 3 in 4 Car Noise Complaints to NHTSA Report No Warning Light](https://www.pulscar.io/blog/car-noise-no-warning-light-study.md): We read 777,040 NHTSA complaints. Flat Spots and Slow Response, by Timing](https://www.pulscar.io/blog/car-hesitation-when-accelerating.md): Hesitation only on a cold start is a temp sensor; only under hard acceleration, fuel delivery. A free OBD scan plus $25 of fixes rules out the big ones. - [Car Stalls While Driving in 2026? 10 Causes + What to Do Right Now](https://www.pulscar.io/blog/car-stalls-while-driving.md): Stalls at stoplights: throttle body, IAC or vacuum leak. Dies at speed, restarts once cool: crank sensor. Rule them out before a $600 fuel pump. - [Car Won't Start in 2026: The Sound at the Key Names the Cause (10 Causes, Real Costs)](https://www.pulscar.io/blog/car-wont-start.md): Rapid clicking points at the battery; one click at the starter or a weak battery. Ten causes, 2026 costs, and the free tests that come before parts. - [Car Pulls to One Side in 2026? 7 Causes + the Free 2-Minute Road Test](https://www.pulscar.io/blog/car-pulls-to-one-side.md): Car pulls left or right? Rule out road crown first. Pulling when braking points to a $300 caliper, when cruising to a $120 alignment. Here's the test. - [Transmission Slipping? The $150-to-$4,000 Clock, and the 55% That's Just Fluid (2026)](https://www.pulscar.io/blog/transmission-slipping.md): Transmission slipping costs $150-$350 at the fluid stage, where 55% of cases live, and $2,500-$4,500 once clutch packs burn. Every mile moves the price. - [Car Starts Then Dies Immediately in 2026? 10 Causes, Cheapest Fix First](https://www.pulscar.io/blog/car-starts-then-dies.md): Car fires for 2-3 seconds, then dies? A flashing key icon is anti-theft. A free 30-second prime test names the cause before a $600 fuel pump. - [Car Cranks But Won't Start? 9 Causes Ranked by Cost (Real 2026 Fixes)](https://www.pulscar.io/blog/car-cranks-but-wont-start.md): Engine spins but won't fire? The starter is fine. Four of nine causes cost under $200, and a 15-minute driveway protocol finds yours before you pay a shop. - [Car Overheating in 2026? 10 Causes Ranked by Cost, and What to Do Right Now](https://www.pulscar.io/blog/car-overheating.md): Gauge in the red? Stop first: driving on it turns a $200 thermostat into a $2,800 head gasket. 10 causes by cost, free safe checks, shop scripts. ## Data PulsCar publishes 125 folders of original analysis of NHTSA public data, as CSV plus a method note that states the queries, the source files and the limits of the result. Free to reuse under CC BY 4.0 with the attribution the method note carries. One caveat that applies to every table here, because it changes results by an order of magnitude: NHTSA complaint narratives are stored in ALL CAPS for records filed through roughly 2020 and in mixed case after. A case-sensitive search loses about 92% of the post-2020 complaints. Every query behind these files is case-insensitive. - [abs-light-on](https://www.pulscar.io/research/abs-light-on/method.txt): 4 tables, CSV. - [ac-compressor-replacement-cost](https://www.pulscar.io/research/ac-compressor-replacement-cost/method.txt): 4 tables, CSV. -
