Two of the ten problems on this list can cost you nothing, and both expire quietly.

Honda extended powertrain coverage on certain 2017-2018 CR-V vehicles with the 1.5-litre turbo to six years from original purchase with no mileage limit — covering camshaft, rocker-arm assemblies and spark plugs — after the gasoline-in-oil problem drew enough complaints to prompt bulletins, software updates and eventually a class-action settlement. That coverage applied to roughly 239,000 CR-Vs. A great many owners never claimed it, because nobody told them their VIN was eligible. Honda's other extensions work the same way and are just as easy to miss, including those in the Pilot guide by mileage.

The second free item is not a warranty at all. It is the AWD shudder on tight turns, which is a fluid change quoted as a driveline repair often enough to be worth its own paragraph.

By the end of this guide you will know which of the ten failures is due at your mileage, what each costs in 2026, which claims rest on a manufacturer document you can pull yourself, and the cheap cause that gets skipped when the expensive one is quoted first.

How to use this guide

Identify your engine first, then find your mileage. Every entry has the same parts: the tell, what it actually is, the 2026 price, the cheap cause that gets skipped, and where this does not apply — because on a vehicle sold with three engines, two drivetrains and a hybrid, most rules have an exception. Two entries include a do-it-yourself path with honest limits. Every entry ends with the exact sentence to say at the counter.

One rule overrides everything: on this vehicle, three of the most expensive-sounding complaints are fluid problems. CVT judder, AWD turning shudder and much of what gets blamed on the differential all begin as the wrong fluid, old fluid, or fluid that was never changed because a manual implied it was lifetime. Fluid is the cheapest lever on this list and the most consistently skipped.

First: which CR-V do you actually have?

2017-2018 with the 1.5-litre turbo. The oil-dilution generation, and the one with the warranty extension attached. Honda's remedy involved software changes to ignition timing, CVT control and air-conditioning operation so the engine warms faster and retains heat.

2019 and newer with the 1.5-litre turbo. Updated calibrations applied at the factory. Complaint volume dropped, though short-trip cold-climate owners still report some dilution at a lower rate.

2015-2016 with the direct-injection 2.4-litre. A different set of drivability and vibration complaints; no oil dilution story.

2012-2014 with the port-injection 2.4-litre. The simplest of the modern CR-Vs and largely free of the engine stories above.

Hybrid (2020+). Deletes the CVT conversation and stretches brake life through regenerative braking. Adds its own cooling and inverter items.

AWD versus front-wheel drive. AWD adds the rear differential and its fluid service — item 4, and one of the highest-value paragraphs here.

The 5-minute check that dates your CR-V better than the odometer

  1. Pull the dipstick before starting. Level above full with a fuel smell on a 1.5 turbo → item 1. Level low on any engine → note it.
  2. Start it and listen at the front for thirty seconds. A whirling noise from the engine compartment on a 2017-2018 turbo car is named explicitly in Honda's bulletins — that is a documented symptom, not a vague one.
  3. From a complete stop, accelerate gently to 25 mph, twice. A rhythmic shudder that comes and goes with throttle → item 3.
  4. In an empty car park, drive a full-lock slow circle in both directions. A judder or grabbing through the driveline on an AWD car → item 4, and probably $150.
  5. Turn the air conditioning to maximum and feel the vent after ten minutes. Cold that fades warm → item 5.
  6. Find your VIN and your original purchase date. On a 2017-2018 turbo car these two facts decide whether item 1 is free.

What actually determines your number

Whether a bulletin, extension or campaign applies to your VIN. On a 2017-2018 turbo car this is worth the entire repair. It is free to ask and takes one phone call.

Which fluid was used. Honda CVTs require HCF-2 and the AWD system requires Honda dual-pump fluid. Both transmissions are engineered around specific friction properties. This is the rare case where the cheaper generic part is actively harmful rather than merely inferior.

Your climate and trip length. Oil dilution is a cold-climate short-trip phenomenon. The same engine in a warm state driven on long commutes rarely shows it. That is not a caveat — it is the mechanism.

Independent versus dealer. Typically 30-50% on labor-heavy work, but warranty extension and campaign work can only be performed by a dealer. Sometimes the cheapest outcome is only available at the more expensive place. The full comparison maps which jobs those are.

How long a misfire ran. Sustained misfires poison catalytic converters. Every month of delay on item 1 moves money toward item 10.

Front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. AWD adds one cheap recurring service and one commonly misdiagnosed symptom. FWD owners can skip item 4 entirely.

The ten problems, in the order they arrive

1 · Oil dilution on the 1.5 turbo — 20,000 to 60,000 miles

The tell. The dipstick reads above the full mark and the oil smells of gasoline. Alongside that: hard starting, a check-engine light, misfire codes, and — named explicitly in Honda's own bulletin language — a whirling noise from the engine compartment. The codes cited are P0300 through P0304 and P0172.

What it actually is. Unburned fuel washing past the piston rings during cold-start operation and collecting in the crankcase faster than it evaporates out. The L15B7 engine targets quick warm-up with aggressive cold-start fuelling, and in cold weather on short trips the fuel does not fully burn off.

The documented remedy, in Honda's own terms. Service bulletins 19-032 and 19-037 cover 2017-2018 CR-V vehicles for those DTCs and the whirling noise, with 19-032 adding an air-conditioning control unit replacement. The software changes ignition timing, CVT control and climate-control operation so the engine warms faster and holds heat. Honda extended powertrain coverage on affected vehicles to six years from purchase with no mileage limit, specifically covering camshaft, rocker-arm assemblies and spark plugs.

The cheap cause that gets skipped, and here it is free. The VIN check. Eligibility is determined by a dealer VIN inquiry, and owners have paid for repairs that were covered. Separately, the Wozniak class-action settlement extended coverage further and provided reimbursement — which is why oil-change receipts are worth keeping, even retrospectively.

Where this does not apply. In warm climates with long daily drives, this barely appears; Honda characterised abnormal dilution as rare outside very cold regions, though owners in California and Texas have reported it too. On 2019 and newer cars the factory calibration reduces it substantially. And a small degree of dilution on this engine is normal and not a defect — the issue is the abnormal degree.

At the shop — say this: "Please run a VIN inquiry for warranty extensions and campaigns related to oil dilution — I understand bulletins 19-032 and 19-037 apply to 2017-2018 CR-Vs. If the software update hasn't been done, I want it done, and I want the oil level and smell noted on the invoice."

2 · Front brakes — 30,000 to 70,000 miles

The tell. A thin high squeal at low speed that stops under hard pressure — the wear indicator at roughly 3mm of pad. Grinding is low, gritty and felt through the pedal.

What it actually is. Normal consumption. City driving shortens it, highway driving stretches it.

The cheap cause that gets skipped. A squeal only on the first two stops of a damp morning is surface rust — free, gone by the third stop. Ask for pad thickness in millimetres; above 4mm you are buying time you already have.

Where this does not apply. On a Hybrid, regenerative braking does most of the deceleration and pads routinely last far longer than a non-hybrid owner expects. If a shop tells a Hybrid owner at 45,000 miles that the pads are finished, ask to see the measurement in millimetres before agreeing.

Fix it yourself — realistic. Front pads and rotors are a genuine driveway job: $110-$200 in parts, two to three hours, jack stands mandatory. The honest limit: if one side is far more worn than the other, or a slide pin is seized, stop — that is a caliper, and a dragging caliper destroys new parts within weeks.

At the shop — say this: "What's the actual pad thickness in millimetres front and rear, and are the rotors above minimum spec? If the pads are over 4 millimetres I'd rather wait."

The tell. A shudder during light acceleration from a stop, typically 15 to 30 mph, described as a manual clutch slipping — a rhythmic pulsation coming and going with throttle. Worse warm, absent under hard acceleration.

What it actually is. The torque converter lockup clutch develops an inconsistent grab pattern when it engages at low speed to improve fuel economy. Contaminated or degraded fluid accelerates it. NHTSA opened investigation PE17023 into Honda CVT judder complaints, which is why this is a documented pattern rather than an anecdote.

The cheap cause that gets skipped, and the specification that matters. Fluid — but only the right fluid. Honda CVTs require HCF-2. Generic fluid, including bottles claiming Honda compatibility, has different friction characteristics, and the belt-to-pulley interface is engineered around HCF-2's specific coefficient. The wrong fluid makes shudder worse, accelerates wear, and can affect warranty coverage. Insist the specification appears on the invoice.

Where this does not apply. Hybrid CR-Vs use a two-motor system rather than a belt-and-pulley CVT, so this item does not exist on them at all.

At the shop — say this: "I'd like a CVT fluid service with genuine HCF-2 — not a generic equivalent — as the first step, with the fluid specification written on the invoice and the mileage recorded. If the judder persists in 3,000 miles, then let's discuss the start clutch."

4 · The AWD shudder that is a fluid change — 40,000 to 90,000 miles

The tell. A judder, grabbing or binding sensation felt through the car during tight, slow turns — a parking manoeuvre, a U-turn, pulling into a driveway. It does not happen at speed, does not happen in straight lines, and often gets worse when the vehicle is warm.

What it actually is. The rear differential in Honda's all-wheel-drive system uses a fluid with specific friction properties to let clutch packs engage smoothly. As the fluid degrades, those packs grab in steps rather than slipping progressively, and you feel it as a shudder precisely when the front and rear wheels are travelling different distances — which is what a tight turn is.

The cheap cause that gets skipped, and it is nearly the whole item. The fluid. A rear differential service with genuine Honda dual-pump fluid runs $120-$250 and resolves the complaint outright in the large majority of cases. It gets skipped because "shudder in the driveline" sounds structural, and a differential or transfer case quote is a four-figure conversation.

Where this does not apply. Front-wheel-drive CR-Vs have no rear differential and cannot produce this symptom. If a FWD owner has a shudder in turns, look at CV joints instead — the clicking guide covers that pattern.

Fix it yourself — genuinely accessible. This is one of the friendliest fluid services on the vehicle: a drain plug, a fill plug, roughly a litre and a half of genuine fluid, and about forty minutes. The honest limit: use only Honda's specified dual-pump fluid — the friction modifier is the entire point, and a generic gear oil will not resolve the shudder and may worsen it. And if the fluid comes out with metal particles rather than just dark, stop and hand it over.

At the shop — say this: "It only shudders in tight slow turns, so before we discuss the differential itself I'd like a rear diff fluid service with genuine Honda dual-pump fluid, noted on the invoice. If it's still there afterward, then let's look deeper."

5 · Air conditioning: condenser and compressor — 40,000 to 90,000 miles

The tell. Air that starts cold and fades warm after ten minutes, or never gets properly cold. Sometimes a clutch cycling rapidly, or no engagement click at all.

What it actually is. Refrigerant is not consumed — a system that is low is a system that leaks. Condensers sit at the front and take road debris, so impact damage is a genuine alternative explanation worth checking before assuming a manufacturing fault.

The cheap causes. A failed relay gives no cold air with a healthy system. A blend door actuator produces a similar complaint from inside the dash. And a leak found early is far cheaper than one that has run the system dry and damaged the compressor through lack of lubrication.

The observation that halves the diagnosis. Cold at first then warm points at a leak or icing. Never cold at all points at electrical or the compressor. Note which you have before going in.

Where this does not apply. Note that Honda's air-conditioning control unit replacement under bulletin 19-032 is part of the oil dilution remedy on 2017-2018 turbo cars, not an air-conditioning failure. If your A/C works fine and a dealer mentions replacing the control unit, that is item 1's remedy rather than a fault with your cooling.

At the shop — say this: "Was a leak test performed, and where exactly is it leaking? Can you check the relay before condemning the compressor, and is there impact damage on the condenser?"

Did Honda actually extend the CR-V warranty for oil dilution, or is that an internet rumour? It is documented, and specific enough to check yourself. Honda extended powertrain coverage on certain 2017-2018 CR-V vehicles with the 1.5-litre turbo to six years from original purchase with no mileage limit, up from five years or 60,000 miles, naming camshaft, rocker-arm assemblies and spark plugs as covered. The tell. Rough cold running, hesitation, mild loss of power, sometimes misfire codes — building gradually over tens of thousands of miles rather than appearing overnight.

What it actually is. On a direct-injection engine, fuel is sprayed into the cylinder rather than past the intake valves, so the valves never get washed. Oil vapour deposits build into carbon that disrupts airflow. This is a design consequence, not a defect, and every direct-injection engine has some version of it.

The cheap cause that gets skipped. Plugs. Worn plugs produce overlapping symptoms and cost a fraction of a cleaning. Ask for the plug condition first. Then ask for a borescope inspection of the intake valves — a technician can photograph the deposits, which turns a guess into a picture.

Where this does not apply. Port-injected engines — the 2012-2014 2.4-litre — wash their intake valves with fuel continuously and largely do not develop this. If you own one of those, skip this item.

At the shop — say this: "Before we discuss carbon cleaning, what's the plug condition, and can you borescope the intake valves and show me the photos? I'd like to see the deposits before paying to remove them."

7 · Starter and battery drain — 60,000 to 120,000 miles

The tell. One solid click and nothing, dash lights staying bright. Or rapid machine-gun clicking. Or a slow laboured crank. Often intermittent for weeks first.

What it actually is. Two different components with one symptom. The distinction is free: rapid clicking means a weak battery and a jump usually works; one solid click with bright dash lights means the starter and a jump will not help.

The cheap cause that gets skipped. Corroded or loose battery terminals produce an inconsistent click that changes attempt to attempt. Cleaning them costs nothing. Our clicking-when-starting guide covers all six causes and how to read the pattern.

Where this does not apply. Hybrid CR-Vs do not use a conventional starter motor in the same way, so a no-start on a Hybrid points at the 12-volt auxiliary battery or the high-voltage system instead, and the diagnostic path is different.

At the shop — say this: "It's one solid click with bright dash lights, so I think starter rather than battery. Can you load-test the battery and check the terminals first, then confirm the starter draw before replacing it?"

Which CR-V engine is the cheapest to own long-term? The 2.4-litre port-injected engine in 2012-2014 cars, and the reason is structural rather than sentimental: it has neither of the two engine stories that define the later vehicles. Port injection sprays fuel past the intake valves, which keeps them washed clean and largely removes the carbon-buildup item that direct-injection engines develop somewhere past 80,000 miles. And having no turbocharger, it does not participate in the cold-start fuelling behaviour behind the oil-dilution complaints on the 1.5-litre. What that leaves is an ordinary compact SUV maintenance list: brakes, bearings, mounts, fluids. The trade is fuel economy and low-end response, both of which the turbo genuinely improves. 8 · Wheel bearings — 70,000 to 130,000 miles

The tell. A hum or drone appearing around 40-50 mph that rises with road speed and changes when you steer gently — that steering sensitivity is the diagnostic detail, because it shifts load between bearings and names the side.

What it actually is. Rolling elements wear and the assembly develops play. Not immediately dangerous, but it worsens and can eventually affect wheel-speed sensor readings.

The cheap cause that gets skipped. A worn or cupped tire produces nearly the same drone. Rotate and drive: if the noise moves, it is tires. Free, and skipped whenever a shop hears "humming" and reaches for the bearing catalogue.

The free confirmation. With the car safely supported, spin the wheel by hand listening for a gritty rumble, then rock it at 12 and 6 o'clock feeling for play. Ask to be shown, not told.

Where this does not apply. If the hum does not change with steering input, it may be a CVT whine instead, which is a different and more expensive conversation — see item 3.

At the shop — say this: "The hum changes when I steer, so I think a bearing — but can we rotate the tires first to rule those out, and show me the play by hand on the lift before ordering parts?"

9 · Engine mounts — 80,000 to 140,000 miles

Drive, not Park

The tell. Vibration through the seat and wheel at idle, clearly worse in Drive than in Park. A thunk shifting between Drive and Reverse. A shudder on initial acceleration.

What it actually is. Rubber and liquid-filled isolators perish with age and heat. Nothing dangerous short term; it becomes a wear item because a rocking engine stresses hoses, exhaust joints and axles.

The test that costs nothing. Foot firmly on the brake, shift to Drive, hold ten seconds, feel. Then Reverse. Then Park. Present in gear and absent in Park is a mount, with high confidence. Most misdiagnoses happen because the owner only noticed the shake in Park.

Where this does not apply. If the vibration comes with a check-engine light, resolve that first — a misfire feels similar in the cabin but is present in Park too. On a 1.5 turbo with misfire codes, that is item 1, not item 9. The idle-shake guide covers the separation.

At the shop — say this: "It's worse in Drive than Park with the brake held, so I think a mount. Can you check them on a lift with a pry bar and tell me which are actually failed rather than replacing the set?"

10 · Catalytic converter — 120,000 miles and up

The tell. A steady check-engine light with P0420, often with no drivability symptom. Sometimes a faint sulphur smell. Frequently the first sign is failing an emissions inspection.

What it actually is. The computer compares the oxygen sensor before the converter with the one after it; when readings converge, the code sets. That does not say the converter is broken — only that the pair read too much alike.

The cheap causes, all three. A lazy downstream sensor ($180-$350 installed). A small exhaust leak upstream skewing readings. An unresolved misfire poisoning the substrate — and on a 1.5 turbo, that misfire may be item 1, which means the correct repair is upstream of the converter entirely.

The one demand that changes the conversation: Mode 6. Mode $06 reports the catalyst monitor's actual test result as a number against threshold, so you see how far from the limit you are rather than being told it failed. Ask for those values in writing. On theft, which is a real CR-V issue. Compact SUVs sit high enough for easy access and their converters retain value. A stolen converter announces itself instantly as a shockingly loud exhaust, not a subtle code. If your CR-V suddenly sounds like a race car, look underneath before booking a diagnosis.

At the shop — say this: "Before we replace the converter I want the Mode 6 catalyst values against threshold, the downstream sensor actually tested rather than assumed, and a check for exhaust leaks upstream."

Best and worst CR-V years, and why the lists disagree

Most people searching for CR-V problems are really asking which years to buy, so here it is directly.

Where the lists agree. The 2012-2014 port-injected cars are boring in the best sense. The 2019-onward turbo cars benefit from factory calibration updates. Both are safe picks.

Where they fall apart: 2017-2018. You will find these called "the years to avoid" and "an underrated bargain," and both positions are defensible — because the deciding variable is not the car, it is the paperwork. A 2017 CR-V whose owner had the software update applied and the covered components replaced under a six-year unlimited-mileage extension is a car whose defining problem was fixed at Honda's expense. The identical car with no VIN check and no update is carrying an unresolved issue. Same year, same engine, opposite purchases — and the difference is one phone call that anyone can make before buying.

The nuance about climate that most lists omit. Honda characterised abnormal dilution as rare outside very cold regions, and the mechanism supports that: it needs cold starts and short trips. A 2017 CR-V that lived in Arizona doing highway commutes is a materially different risk from an identical car that did school runs in Minnesota. When shopping, ask where the car spent its life — that question is worth more than the odometer reading.

What to do before buying any of them:

  • Get the VIN and run it past a Honda dealer for open campaigns, applied updates and extension eligibility.
  • Pull the dipstick and check whether the level is above full and smells of fuel.
  • Drive a tight slow circle in both directions if it is AWD — that is item 4 in eight seconds.
  • Accelerate gently from a full stop three times and feel for judder.
  • Ask for oil-change receipts, which have value both as maintenance evidence and as reimbursement evidence under the class-action settlement.

What actually happens at the shop, checkpoint by checkpoint

Checkpoint 1 — the VIN question. "Please run a VIN inquiry for open campaigns, applied service bulletins and warranty extensions." On a 2017-2018 turbo car this is the first sentence.

Checkpoint 2 — the write-up. "Can you read back the complaint as written?" "Shudder only in tight slow turns" produces a different diagnosis from "driveline shudder," and here that difference is about a thousand dollars.

Checkpoint 3 — the diagnostic fee. "What's the charge, and does it credit toward the repair?" Expect $80-$150 independent, $120-$200 dealer, usually credited.

Checkpoint 4 — the fluid specification. "Is that genuine HCF-2 / Honda dual-pump fluid?" Written on the invoice. On this vehicle two separate systems are engineered around specific friction properties, and generic substitutes actively cause the symptom you are paying to remove.

Checkpoint 5 — the evidence. "Can you show me?" Millimetres of pad, borescope photos of the valves, dye under UV, play in a bearing by hand, Mode 6 numbers.

Three diagnostic traps that cost CR-V owners the most

Trap 1: the covered repair paid for out of pocket. The situation: a 2017 CR-V with misfire codes and rough running at 74,000 miles. What the shop says: "Misfires. Plugs and coils, then we'll see. Around $600." What is really happening: on a 2017-2018 1.5 turbo, misfire codes P0300-P0304 alongside a rising oil level are the documented dilution pattern, and Honda's extension to six years with no mileage limit covers camshaft, rocker arms and spark plugs. Price versus bill: potentially $0 against $600 and rising. Your protective question: "Can you run a VIN inquiry for the oil-dilution warranty extension and bulletins 19-032 and 19-037 before we do anything?"

Trap 2: the fluid change quoted as a differential. The situation: an AWD CR-V shuddering during parking manoeuvres at 68,000 miles. What the shop says: "That's the rear differential engaging roughly. We're looking at driveline work." What is really happening: degraded dual-pump fluid causes exactly that symptom, and a fluid service resolves it in most cases. Price versus bill: $120-$250 against four figures. Your protective question: "Can we do a rear differential fluid service with genuine Honda dual-pump fluid first and re-test the turning shudder?"

Trap 3: the generic fluid that made it worse. The situation: CVT judder, treated with a discount fluid service that cost $80. What the shop says: "It's CVT fluid, fully compatible with Honda." What is really happening: the belt-to-pulley interface is engineered around HCF-2's friction coefficient. Generic fluid changes that coefficient, and owners report worse judder afterward. Price versus bill: $40 saved, against accelerated wear on a $3,500 transmission. Your protective question: "Please write the exact fluid specification on the invoice — I need genuine HCF-2, not an equivalent."

Three quotes, decoded

These are composite scenarios, not individual customers — the mileages, quotes and outcomes are typical of the pattern each item describes, assembled so the arithmetic is visible. We do not publish invented testimonials, so nothing below is presented as a specific person's story.

Scenario 1 — the repair Honda may already owe you. A 2017 CR-V at 74,000 miles with misfire codes and a rising oil level. The standard five-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty has expired, so the owner assumes it is theirs to pay. The extension runs to six years with no mileage limit, which is a different question entirely — and it turns on the purchase date rather than the odometer. Lesson: on this generation, "out of warranty" is a conclusion most owners reach without checking the one number that decides it.

Scenario 2 — the four-figure quote that is a litre and a half of fluid. An AWD CR-V juddering only in tight turns, quoted for driveline work. A rear differential service with the specified dual-pump fluid addresses the mechanism directly, because the symptom is friction modifier degradation rather than mechanical failure. Lesson: a symptom that appears only under one very specific condition — here, tight slow turns — is usually a narrow cause, not a broad one.

Scenario 3 — the $40 saving that cost a transmission. CVT judder treated with generic fluid marketed as Honda-compatible, then returning worse a few thousand miles later. The friction coefficient is a design parameter of the transmission, not a marketing claim on a bottle. Lesson: on a belt-and-pulley CVT the fluid is a component, not a consumable, and the cheaper substitute is a different component.

How can you tell a real CR-V failure from an unnecessary repair quote? Run two checks on every line of the estimate. First the document check: ask whether any service bulletin, campaign or warranty extension applies to your VIN, because on 2017-2018 turbo cars a documented extension runs to six years with no mileage limit and covers components most owners pay for themselves. "Shudder in tight turns on an AWD car." Ask for a rear differential fluid service with genuine Honda dual-pump fluid before anything else is discussed. This is the single cheapest resolution in the guide.

"Nothing's wrong, I just bought it." Do the five-minute check. Run the VIN. Then set three reminders: CVT fluid every 30,000-40,000 miles with HCF-2, rear diff fluid at the same interval if AWD, and a shortened oil interval if you have a 1.5 turbo in a cold climate. That is the entire preventive programme, and it costs under $600 across several years.

"140,000 miles and I'm deciding whether to keep it." Price the specific items due rather than a vague sense of decline — usually converter, bearings, mounts, and fluids. On this vehicle that number typically lands between $1,000 and $2,200 against a replacement at $30,000-plus. Unless there is rust underneath, keeping it usually wins comfortably.

After the repair: verify, then prevent

Verify within a week. Judder: same gentle pull-away, same road, note the mileage so you can measure how long relief lasts. Turning shudder: the same slow full-lock circle in both directions. Bearing: the hum gone at the speed where it lived. Converter: light stays off through two full drive cycles and readiness monitors set.

Get the fluid specification on the invoice. HCF-2 for the CVT, Honda dual-pump for the rear differential. This is the one place on this vehicle where the wrong cheaper part causes the symptom you paid to remove.

Keep the oil-change receipts. Beyond ordinary maintenance evidence, the class-action settlement included reimbursement provisions. Receipts have retrospective value here in a way they do not on most vehicles.
